Last year's Relay for Life Quilt for Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin's Relay for Life.

Relay for Life Quilt 2007

This is a close up view of the New 2007 Relay for Life Quilt.  The pattern is called Courthouse Round.  It is on display at the Fireside in Fort Atkinson, WI.

A little about the 2007 Relay for Life Quilt and the history behind it.

This is the 7th Quilt Marcia (Nordeen) Wachuta and her Mom, Joanne Nordeen have constructed and quilted for the Relay for Life – Fort Atkinson. Marcia’s father and Joanne's husband, Dan Nordeen, died of Pancreatic Cancer in 1996. Marcia’s sister-in-law, Julie (Anderson) Nordeen (Mark's wife) lost her Mother to Pancreatic Cancer in 2004. The quilt is donated to Relay for Life - Fort Atkinson in memory of both Dan Nordeen and Blanche Anderson.

Our Relay For Life 2007 Quilt is on display at the Fireside Dinner Theatre in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Proceeds from the Raffle will go to the American Cancer Society/Relay for Life - Fort Atkinson. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the Fireside ticket office. This is the website for the Fort Atkinson Relay for Life http://www.fortrelay.org/. The Relay for Life Fort Atkinson is July 20th and 21st The drawing will be July 21st . The winner will be contacted by phone.

This year’s quilt uses the Courthouse Round Pattern. Marcia and her Mom (Joanne) constructed this quilt in August of 2004 while Jewel's (Marcia's daughter) was sorting and packing for a one year college trip to TaiwanJoanne would match up the colored strips and pass them to Marcia to sew.  The construction of the quilt kept them "stress free" while Jewel's was packing for her big adventure. They really enjoy working together on quilting projects.  This quilt pattern starts with a square in the center and strips build around to form the blocks. Again this year there are hundreds of pieces of fabric used to create the quilt! This year’s quilt is valued at over $1000. The fabric is 100% cotton. The batting is Hobbs Heirloom, 80% cotton and 20% poly. The quilting is the most selected quilting, which is a “Free Style Meandering”. The quilt is machine washable. It would be excellent for a double or queen-size bed and would fit on the top of a King-size bed.

Marcia owns and operates a quilting business in her home in Boscobel, Wisconsin. She quilts with a Gammill Long Arm Regulated Stitch Quilting Machine. She does what is called "Free Style Quilting". Marcia has quilted over 700 quilts ranging from simple meandering with a twist to detailed stitching. Marcia specializes in “Free Style Quilting”, thus making the quilting on every quilt very unique! Marcia also teaches mini sewing classes at the Carriage House in Boscobel. If you want to know more about Marcia and what she does check out the other pages of this website.

 Signature Quilt for Kathy

I made a Signature Quilt for Kathy. She is battling cancer for the second time. We sent the individual blocks to her daughter and husband. They gathered signatures and messages. They returned them to me. I assembled the quilt, quilted it, and did the binding on the quilt. Then my Mom and I surprised Kathy with her Signature "COMFORT" Quilt!

Here are some pictures of it.

This was the email Kathy sent to friends and family.....

This gorgeous quilt was given to me this evening by Marcia Wachuta and Joanne Nordeen. I will treasure each and every one of the comforting messages on each square of the quilt!! When I need some warmth or just a comforting word or two, I will crawl under my "comfort quilt" signed by my wonderful family and friends and I will feel safe and loved.

I love you all,

Kathy

This is the Quilted Tote Bag that Kathy carries her Signature Comfort Quilt in when she goes to her Chemo Treatments. She can also pack it with magazines and stuff to keep her busy while she has her Chemo Treatments.  I quilted the Humanity Words on her Totebag.  Some of the words:  Hope, Joy, Honesty, Loyalty, and including the words Best Friends! Names could be quilted on the bag too! Makes it more personal!
